Steam Themed Art

Train Series: Vintage Steam Engines
My interest in steam locomotives and other steam-powered machinery began with my father. When we lived in Kansas in the mid-1960s, steam-powered farm equipment shows were a major attraction. On summer weekends, our family would load into the car and travel to these shows or visit towns where a working or fully preserved steam locomotive could be seen.
My father later passed down his collection of historical books on steam power and railroads from around the world. Those books became a lasting source of inspiration and continue to influence my artwork today.
After retiring from a career in construction, I found myself searching for a creative outlet. When my wife began learning to paint with an airbrush, I joined her—and that decision led me to pursue painting as a way to bring my lifelong fascination with steam power to life on canvas.
